On Friday, October 2, 2020, the bridge world lost a long-time player and supporter. George Mraz of Peoria, AZ passed away at the age of 77 from complications of heart disease and diabetes. George learned how to play bridge when he was a teenager from his grandmother. That started a lifelong love of the game. George worked as a computer analyst at Bull until his retirement in 2006. After retirement he had the opportunity to become the co-owner and manager of the Peoria Bridge Studio. George successfully ran the Bridge Studio until the owners of the facility where it was held became unworkable in 2014. He closed the Bridge Studio the summer of 2014. That was a sad day for all of the west side players as the Bridge Studio was THE place to play bridge. George was so proud the day he won the points needed to become a life master. He continued to play bridge right up to the day the local club closed due to the pandemic. He was hopeful he would be able to come back to the table once the club reopened. Unfortunately, when the club does reopen, it will be without George. The entire west side bridge community mourns the passing of one of our favorites. We extend our deepest sympathies to George’s wife and family.
There will be no public service due to the pandemic. Cards can be sent to his wife:
